Playing With Color at Coney Island

Spent a day wandering Coney Island with a few friends.  Had a chance to play with a little color and see how it works.  The sparcity of people made it seem somewhat post apocalyptic in a few of the photos.  No one around to enjoy rides always feels slightly strange.

Indigenous Peoples Day Part 2

This past weekend The Redhawk Native American Arts Council held their annual Indigenous Peoples Day Festival on Randalls Island in New York City.  Spanning the entire weekend and through Monday the celebration included over 500 artists, dancers, and performers with Redhawks aim to spread awareness of Indigenous peoples from North to South American and the Pacific Islands.  The festival holds special significance as it coincides with Columbus Day. Columbus Day has come under heavy crticism in recent years due to Christopher Columbus's now widely known use of slavery, rape, and murder to force native people into submission. The Indigenous Day Festival is one of many movements that seek to replace Columbus Day with a holiday recognizing the culture and history of all native nations.
